Match Report | Giants Women end pre-season with big win

Match report - A dominant win for our women's side against Leigh in our final pre season game

Leigh started strong, but despite early pressure, the Giants were able to deny the visitors, thanks to excellent try-line defence, particularly after conceding back-to-back penalties deep in our own half.

The first breakthrough of the afternoon came from a scrum deep inside our own half, where Mollie Iceton showed her blistering pace down the blindside, racing along the left wing to beat the fullback and open the scoring. Tegan Sant added the conversion for a 6–0 lead.

A knock-on from the restart by the Giants handed possession back to Leigh, but sustained defensive resilience again kept the opposition out during consecutive sets on the try line.

Amelia Brown extended the lead with a solo effort, collecting a kick deep in her own half and using some magic footwork to break through the defence. Sant converted to make it 12–0.

Bethan Oates produced a strong line break but was unable to finish, with the set ending in a turnover near the corner. However, momentum continued as Sam Hulme broke the line and offloaded to captain Bethan Oates, who this time scored under the posts. Sant converted for 18–0.

Hulme continued to trouble the defence, jumping from acting half and once again setting up Oates for her second try. Sant converted, pushing the score to 24–0.

Brown scored her second of the day from a well-executed scrum play, attacking the right edge. The conversion was missed, leaving the score at 28–0.

She soon completed her hat-trick, running a great line off structured play to cross again. Another missed conversion made it 32–0 at halftime.

Halftime: 32–0

The second half began evenly; with both sides going set for set. A crucial try-saving tackle from Amelia Brown prevented Leigh from getting back into the game.

Some more great attacking shape paid off, as Brown played out the back to send Mollie Iceton over untouched for her second. The conversion was missed: 36–0.

Sam Hulme once more caused problems from acting half, putting in a perfectly weighted grubber kick that Tegan Sant grounded near the posts. She converted her own try to make it 42–0.

Eva Izumi added another, finishing well after Brown again created space out the back to release her centre. The conversion was missed, bringing the score to 46–0.
